Porteños love their farmer’s markets and festivals on the weekends. Recently, we traveled with some friends about forty minutes outside of the city to one called Feria de Mataderos. Good music, great food, and gaucho games entertained the public throughout the hot afternoon.
Take a look:
- Galen ordering the best masas finas while making the busy workers smile.
- After a long ride on the 126 colectivo, live folk, rock, and tango music welcomed us.
- There was plenty to see.
- including these poignant chess sets – Stephen wants one…
- and these gaucho-themed mate
- Can you tell what these reconstituted knives used to be?
- Stands like this made us hungry.
- Happy with a famous Argentine pastry
- Beautiful, folklore dancing filled the square
- This man stole the show for most of the hot, hot afternoon.
- When a song came on the crowd liked, they broke into dance – gringos at weddings take note.
- Chorizo.
- Carne
- Ashley with a friendly pup. She and Scott also left their dogs with an awesome sibling back home.
- A friendly old man placed his puppy on this horse for the turistas to take photos.
- A gaucho preps for the next competitor. The goal is to grab a ring from this string as your horse runs underneath it.
- A gaucho in action
- This street reminded me of Watts in Los Angeles where I used to work.
- I couldn’t stop thinking about how this sight would have gone over on 110th and Avalon in Los Angeles..
- Turistas (+1 local) on a field trip
It’s been a while since we posted. Recently, many of our other adventures have involved cooking at home. More on that to come!
Yummy!
What fun!!!! This makes me miss Latin America! Wish we were gainfully employed this year and could come visit. I can see a lot of differences in the culture from these and other photos you’ve posted as compared to Guate. Buenos Aires seems more affluent, and based on at least how the “touristas” were dressed, maybe less modest.
Y qué tal con el español? Ya van aprendiendo poco a poco? Leí el post de Stephen en que les estaba hablando español y el señor no le entendió. Qué frustración! I know I hate that feeling. Pues, que sigan esforzándose y van a mejorar! Cada día va a ser un poco más fácil.
Thanks for sharing! God bless you guys. Soak up every minute!

Hola Corinne!
You went to Mataderos!!!!
So much fun to see through your eyes. Thanks!
:) Thanks for following!
You take such beautiful photos. I feel like that country is exploding with color. What kind of dog was that tan one? Cute!
Thanks Sarah. Some of the photos have some tweaks from Photoshop, but muchas gracias nonetheless! I have no idea what type of dog that puppy was, but he was certainly loveable:)
